Our History
Auto Japan is a full-service preventive maintenance and auto repair shop. Previously known as Supreme Foreign Auto, we have been providing quality service and repair in the North Bay for over 30 years.
In the year 2000, Vaughn Young purchased Supreme Foreign Auto from the original owner, Mike Capitani. Vaughn knew Mike for many years, having met in 1985 when they purchased identical motorcycles at the local Yamaha dealer. They also both shared an interest in Datsun's and a passion for producing fine workmanship. When Vaughn bought the business, Toyota and Nissan were the only makes Supreme Foreign Auto serviced, and we broadened that to include all Asian vehicles. In 2004, we chose to change our name to Auto Japan to better describe our vehicle marque and moved to a larger location, more than doubling our service area and bays. Then in 2019, we moved to our current location on Bluebell Drive and expanded our relaxing customer lounge.
Our initial aim was to make our shop a positive experience for each of our customers. Through the years, our ideals have remained the same — to carefully listen to our customers and to take care of their repair service needs honestly and thoroughly. We continue to grow steadily because of our honest repair work and strong reputation. Our customers' confidence and referrals have largely been the reason for our success and growth.
The auto repair industry has had a poor reputation when it comes to environmental stewardship. We're constantly looking for ways to increase our environmental awareness and are changing that perception. Supreme Foreign Auto became the first repair shop to be certified as an original Sonoma Green Business in 1994. Notably aware of the environment, we followed suit in our practices, and then gained DTSC (Department of Toxic Substance Control) certification as a Model Pollution Prevention Shop in 2007. We are currently taking steps to expand our certification to include the Bay Area Green Business.
In addition to our serene customer lounge, we offer free WiFi service and have loaner cars with larger services or repairs.
